About Us
Our story begins in early 2020, just as the world was turning upside down. We met at a wild moment in history — and decided to make something beautiful out of it.
At the time, I (April) was living on a small hobby farm, raising about 100 chickens with my son, Gray. Ben came into our lives with deep farming roots and a quiet passion for good food. With more eggs than we knew what to do with — and a lot of time on our hands — we started experimenting with French cruller donuts. What began as a treat for ourselves quickly turned into something we shared with friends and family.
One pop-up led to another, and soon we found ourselves slinging donuts out the back door of the Cambodian restaurant Ankor Wat in Woodstock. That experience made something clear: there was something real here.
We found a weekend home at The Parker House in Quechee, where we spent ten unforgettable months honing our craft, building our vision — and growing our family. During that time, we got married, had our daughter Marigold, and dreamed up a space of our own.
That dream is now a reality — and its name, Farmer and the Bell, holds a special place in our hearts. Both of us grew up on farms, where it was ingrained in us from a young age: when the bell rang, it was time to come in. As kids, we’d be running wild outside, and that magical sound meant dinner was ready — a moment for everyone, young and old, to gather, eat, and be together. That memory became the heart of what we’re creating: a place where good food brings people together.
We’re so excited to keep growing. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you.
